Topic ID No.: 2026-G02
Title of research topic:
Cropping systems and resilience for abiotic stesses related to climate change
Description:
We investigate plant responses to abiotic stresses in order to discover tolerance mechanisms. The abiotic stresses we investigate include particularly drought, heat and salinity and out methodologies include lab, greenhouse and field work, using classical physiological approaches and combined with -omics approaches such as transcriptomics, genomics and metabolomics.
Target region or country (if applicable):
South Africa
Topic background information / scientific relevance:
Abiotic stresses, which are becoming increasingly important with climate change, are an interesting topic with potential high impact.
Research objectives:
Investigate cropping systems and Identify mechanisms or resilience for abiotic stesses related to climate change.
Required skills and qualifications of the applicant:
We will probably work in the lab, greenhouse and field, but skills can be acquired. Most importantly is a high motivation and dedication.
