Meet Our Team: Professor Christine Wieck [07.02.26]
Professor Dr Christine Wieck is the Managing Director of the Institute of Agricultural Policy and Markets, as well as professor in and the Head of the Department of Agricultural and Food Policy at the University of Hohenheim, Germany.Her research focus is on the quantitative and qualitative analysis of the sustainable transformation of food systems in open and global markets. She works on projects related to due diligence impacts on cross-border agri-food value chains, biodiversity-related agri-food policy, EU animal welfare legislation, and EU and South African food policy analysis.
Prior to her return to academia, Professor Wieck worked as an Agricultural Trade Policy Advisor at the German Development Agency. Professor Wieck also brings practical experience from her early career, having completed vocational training as a farmer and having worked on organic dairy farms in western Germany. She is also a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the German Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture, and has served on the EU Task Force “Rural Africa”.
Professor Wieck holds an agricultural engineering degree, a doctorate in agricultural economics, and a habilitation in agricultural policy and international trade from the University of Bonn, Germany.
